Haphazard QPR suffer third consecutive defeat

Huddersfield 2 QPR 0

Two goals conceded in the space of four second-half minutes consigned QPR to a third straight league defeat.

Rangers, who are nine points above the relegation zone and have won just four of their past 19 games, continue to gift goals to the opposition with alarming regularity.

They were marginally the better side – and went close to scoring when Grant Hall headed Ebere Eze’s corner against the bar – before lias Kachunga’s close-range finish and Steve Mounie’s penalty.

Rangers’ hesitation was punished when Harry Toffolo crossed for Kachunga to head home.

Mounie doubled the lead after Lee Wallace was harshly adjudged to have fouled Kachunga – but the situation came about after QPR keeper Liam Kelly had given the ball away.

Rangers’ season has been plagued by such defensive lapses – and they were evident as early as the opening minute, when Lewis O’Brien fired wide after Todd Kane have given the ball away.

Dom Ball similarly gave the ball away during a haphazard start by the visitors, who then settled only for the game to drift away from them soon after the interval.

QPR (4-2-3-1): Kelly; Kane, Masterson, Hall, Wallace; Ball, Amos (Clarke 67); Osayi-Samuel (Oteh 87), Chair (Pugh 67), Eze; Hugill.
Subs not used: Lumley, Manning, Barbet, Rangel.
