Granero: Hughes has backing of QPR squad

Esteban Granero insists boss Mark Hughes has the support of his players despite QPR’s dismal start to the season.

There has been speculation about Hughes’ future given that Rangers are bottom of the table and without a league win following more big spending during the summer.

But Granero, one of the club’s eye-catching signings, says he and his team-mates are fully behind the manager.

Hughes feels his job is safe.

“We know we have the best manager,” said the Spanish midfielder.

“It’s not his fault – it’s our fault. Against West Ham he told us what would happen and it did.

“It’s our fault – the people on the pitch. We are the ones who have to improve. The manager is doing great and for sure is the best manager.”

Granero’s goal in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against West Brom was his first for QPR, but a mere consolation following another shoddy performance from Hughes’ men.

Hughes has bemoaned his side’s poor defending and their shortcomings at the back were again exposed at The Hawthorns, particularly in the first half.

The defeat came five days after a home loss against West Ham.

“It’s a defensive matter. I’m not talking just about the defenders but the whole team,” Granero admitted.

“We have to focus more and not concede goals, especially at the beginning of matches because it’s very important. We can play much better football if we’re not losing from the beginning.

“We’re worried because this is not where we want to be. We know we deserved more from this period because of the squad we have and our manager. We know we have to improve.

“I didn’t expect to be where we are, but I think we’re strong enough to turn it around. This has happened in the beginning but we have a long time to go.

“I’m very happy here. The reality is we’re at the bottom but we have a long time to improve and do better. I want to be part of this.”
