Fulham boss shrugs off Hughes claim

Fulham manager Martin Jol has hit back at Mark Hughes’ claim that the club lacks ambition.

Jol succeeded the Welshman at Craven Cottage after Hughes quit the Whites because he felt they could not match his long-term aspirations.

Hughes believes QPR have a bright future.

Hughes took over at QPR this week – despite the fact they are new to the top flight and are struggling to stay there.

“We have been playing in the Premier League now for years, so it is a different club,” said Jol.

“We have played in a European final and that is not easy to achieve. When I came here I knew Fulham were ambitious.”

And the Dutchman suggested Hughes was taking a risk by declaring that he wanted to build a legacy at Rangers.

Referring to Hughes’ spells at Fulham and Manchester City, Jol added: “He is very brave to say that. If you look at the clubs he has managed, it has been for two years at the most.”
