Former QPR favourite Waddock takes over as Wealdstone manager

Gary Waddock is the new manager of Wealdstone.

Waddock, 63, was a hugely popular player for QPR in the 1980s and later coached at the club and had a spell as manager.

He has also managed Wycombe, Oxford United and Aldershot Town, and had coaching positions at a number of other clubs.

Waddock has left his role as first-team coach at Walsall and signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Stones.

Born in nearby Kingsbury, he takes over at the club following the recent sacking of Sam Cox.

“Gary’s hungry to get back to management and we’re delighted to have secured his experience to lead our ambitious club,” said Wealdstone chairman Rory Fitzgerald.

“We feel it’s exactly what we need right now to gain the maximum return from our dedicated playing squad.”

Wealdstone, who are 14th in the National League table, are away to KIddersminster ib the FA Trophy quarter-finals on Saturday.
