QPR must give Holloway ‘assistance’ in January – Wilkins

Ray Wilkins has told Sky Sports News HQ it is essential that QPR back Ian Holloway in the transfer market when the January window opens.

Since winning Holloway’s first match after his return for a second spell as manager, Rangers have lost six in a row and slumped to 21st in the Championship table.

They will begin 2017 in the relegation zone if they lose at Wolves on New Year’s Eve and fellow strugglers Blackburn beat Huddersfield.

And ex-QPR player and manager Wilkins believes his former team-mate Holloway urgently needs to strengthen his squad.

Rangers are on a dismal run under Holloway

“He needs a bit of assistance. I saw them play against Brighton and they were nowhere near it to be honest,” said Wilkins.

“He came in and won his first game in charge but he’s on a run now of six defeats on the spin, and they visit Wolves.

“That’s a difficult game for Ollie as well because Wolves are having a bit of a revival – and that could be seven on the spin.

“So he definitely needs a bit of assistance from the club come January because they need a bit of guts in that side.”

Rangers have a number of injury worries ahead of the trip to Molineux, with Massimo Luongo among the players struggling.
