Former Chelsea and QPR man Harris dies
Allan Harris has died, aged 74.
Harris made more than 100 appearances for Chelsea and almost as many for QPR, where he was later Terry Venables’ right-hand man.
The elder brother of Chelsea legend Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris had two spells as a player at Stamford Bridge.
He joined QPR in 1967 and was part of the side that was promoted to the top flight for the first time in Rangers’ history the following year.
Having worked with him at Crystal Palace, Harris returned to QPR when Venables was appointed R’s boss in 1980.
The pair inspired one of the most successful periods in Rangers’ history, reaching the FA Cup final in 1982, winning promotion the following year and then achieving a fifth-placed finish which secured European football.
They left in 1984, with Harris joining Venables at Barcelona, where they won the La Liga title and the European Cup.
