Forest send toothless QPR out of FA Cup

QPR made another swift exit from the FA Cup and are still waiting for their first win under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Rangers have never won at the City Ground and Jamie Ward’s 24th-minute goal was enough to condemn them to another defeat there.

The goal came after they were caught on the counter-attack following a corner.

Oliver Burke, who caused Clint Hill major problems, sprinted into the box and his cross-shot was touched in at the far post by Ward.

Hasselbaink made a number of changes for the third-round tie – his seventh match since taking over as Rangers manager.

Jamie Mackie, back after a hamstring injury, played against his former club – his first start since the opening day of the season.

As expected, Ben Gladwin started after being recalled from his loan spell at Swindon, while there were also starting places for Michael Doughty – whose late father Nigel was Forest’s chairman – Massimo Luongo and Jay Emmanuel Thomas.

And there was a senior QPR debut for keeper Joe Lumley. The 20-year-old was selected because Alex Smithies, who had been lined up to replace Rob Green in goal, has an arm problem.

Lumley was a spectator for much of the second half but Rangers were unable to find an equaliser.

The closest they came was a header from Gabriele Angella which was superbly tipped over by keeper Dorus de Vries.

QPR: Lumley, Onuoha, Angella, Hall, Hill (Perch 67), Tozser, Doughty, Mackie (Petrasso 62), Luongo, Gladwin (Chery 52), Emmanuel-Thomas.
Subs not used: Brzozowski, Faurlin, Polter, Hoilett.
