Ferdinand urged to ‘play his normal game’

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has told Rio Ferdinand not to get caught up in the emotion of his return to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday.

Ferdinand, who spent 12 years with the Red Devils, is sure to receive a warm reception when he returns for Rangers’ visit to United.

And he may have his work cut out against his former side, with recent signings such as Radamel Falcao likely to feature in a much-changed team.

“I just want him to go and play his normal game,” said Redknapp.

“We know what we’re facing. We just want Rio to be a big part of the team and do what he’s done since he’s been here – he’s been excellent on and off the pitch. He’s a fantastic professional.”

Recent signing Sandro is in line to make his debut for Rangers

Rangers have also strengthened during the transfer window and new signings Sandro and Eduardo Vargas are in the squad for the trip north.

Sandro, signed from Tottenham on deadline day, is expected to feature, while Vargas could also be involved following his season-long loan move from Napoli.

Redknapp said of Sandro, who played under him at Spurs: “He’s been excellent. He’s a great lad.

“I’m looking forward to getting him in the team and getting him playing.

“I think he’ll be a great signing for QPR. I think he’ll be a big influence on the team.”
