Harry denies QPR have sealed Defoe deal

Harry Redknapp says a deal to take Jermain Defoe to QPR has not yet been agreed.

Rangers expect to sign the former Tottenham striker, who played under Redknapp at Spurs and Portsmouth, when the transfer window reopens in January.

Chairman Tony Fernandes is keen bring him in and tried to do so in the final hours of the previous window but was unable to agree his release from FC Toronto, who wanted Defoe to be available for Major League Soccer play-offs.

There has been speculation about how much Defoe, 32, will be paid at Loftus Road and reports a deal to sign him is already in place.

But Redknapp said: “I don’t think anything is anywhere near being concluded with Jermain.

“We tried to get Jermain before the deadline. At the moment I don’t think there’s any movement on that one.

“I’m a big fan of Jermain – I’ve signed him enough times. He’s a goalscorer and obviously a player you would like at your club if possible.

“But the figures would have to be right. I haven’t spoke to Tony about it. Only he would deal with all that – it’s up to him.

“He’s a player I’m sure we’ll be interested in in January. It depends on the expense of it all.”

Meanwhile, Redknapp has confirmed that Joey Barton, Jordon Mutch and Nedum Onuoha have been passed fit to return to the squad for Saturday’s game against Manchester City.
