QPR’s bid for Sigthorsson accepted by Ajax

Ajax have accepted QPR’s £5m bid for Icelandic striker Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

West London Sport recently revealed that Rangers were in talks to sign the 24-year-old and subsequently that they had made an offer.

Dutch media reported that Ajax were set to reject the bid, but Rangers have long been confident that Sigthorsson will move to Loftus Road this summer – and a deal has duly been agreed.

Rangers were interested in him last season but he was reluctant to play in the Championship.

Their promotion back to the top flight paved the way for a move for Sigthorsson, who has scored 24 goals in 59 league appearances for Ajax.

He arrived in Holland in 2010 when he was signed by AZ Alkmaar, and he moved to Amsterdam a year later.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp watched him in action in a match against Feyenoord earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Redknapp expects to complete the signing of former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand this week.

  • No chance of Charlie going anywhere especially Sunderland, why would he? Not exactly a step up is it?

  • Sounds a good buy for the R's...but a shame if is goodbye to Charlie Austin I wonder if the rumours are true? I cannot wait to see the gang on parade at Leyton later this month.
