QPR ‘in dialogue’ with Finnish FA over Kamara

Julien Stephan says QPR and the Football Association of Finland are in dialogue following Glen Kamara’s early return from international duty.

It comes amid reports that the organisation are set to report Rangers to Fifa over the matter, with its general secretary Marco Casagrande quoted in Finnish media reports as suggesting the club put pressure on Kamara to withdraw from the squad.

The midfielder, who is on loan with the R’s from Stephan’s former club Rennes, featured in his country’s recent matches against Belarus and Albania.

Finland will play Belarus again on Tuesday but will be unable to select Kamara after he flew back to London.

Rangers, who have been managing his fitness since his arrival at the club, spoke to the Finland camp prior to the international window, and it was believed a plan was in place for the player’s game time, prompting him to return to London after the Albania match.

When it became apparent that Finland had wanted him to remain with them for the second game against Belarus, Rangers indicated on Sunday and on Monday that they would organise his return in time for him to play, but there was no response to the proposal.

“It is really unfortunate that he is being put in a situation where he has to make a really difficult choice in practice due to pressure from the club,” Casagrande has been quoted as saying.

“The regulations are very clear. In our view, they were not followed in this instance. The player is in a difficult position. We regret it, and of course, understand it.”

Kamara, 30, has made seven Championship appearances this season.

Rangers want him to be involved in Friday’s Championship at West Ham, where they will be without the likes of Rumarn Burrell – who suffered an injury while on international duty with Jamaica –  and the suspended Dennis Cirkin.

Head coach Stephan said: “There is a dialogue between the club and the Finland federation. We will take a decision after that discussion.”
