QPR boss refuses to discuss Green situation

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink refused to comment on Rob Green’s contract clause following QPR’s FA Cup defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Keeper Joe Lumley, 20, made his senior debut for the club because Alex Smithies, who had been lined up to replace Green, has an elbow problem.

West London Sport revealed this week that Rangers are considering making Green available to other clubs because a clause in his contract means he will land a new deal if he makes 30 appearances this season. He has so far made 25.

“I’m not going to talk about contractual situations,” said manager Hasselbaink when asked about the issue.

“Rob Green was ill today and could not come to the game. That’s the only thing I can say.

“Alex Smithies has been injured with his elbow, so that’s why Joe Lumley played – and he did ever so well.”

Hasselbaink also said he was “very proud” of his team’s second-half display at the City Ground.
