Rangers set to sign Diarra on one-year deal

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that QPR are set to sign Lassana Diarra but have not made a bid for Tottenham’s Sandro.

Rangers boss Redknapp is keen to sign at least two midfielders before Monday’s transfer deadline and is pushing through a deal for Diarra.

The 29-year-old former Real Madrid man, who played under Redknapp at Portsmouth and has also had spells at Chelsea and Arsenal, is keen to return to London following an acrimonious departure from Lokomotiv Moscow.

He underwent a medical on Saturday and is poised to join the club on a one-year contract.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp has expressed an interest in several other midfielders, including Sandro, while West Ham’s Momo Diame is a long-time target.

Diame has long been one of Redknapp’s transfer targets

The injury-plagued Sandro, 25. played under Redknapp at Spurs and has been tipped to make a big-money move to west London.

Redknapp said: “There’s not been a bid, but he’s a player I like and one of a few players we’ve spoken about.”

Meanwhile, defender Danny Simpson has completed his move from QPR to Leicester.
