Redknapp insists he has Fernandes’ support

Harry Redknapp says Tony Fernandes has assured him his position as QPR manager is not under threat.

Redknapp, who has claimed that an “insider” is responsible for reports he is close to losing his job, saw his team lose 2-0 against Manchester United at Loftus Road.

But he insisted he remains confident Rangers chairman Fernandes is not planning to wield the axe.

Redknapp said: “Someone wrote it in one newspaper this week and everyone’s got to believe it.

“I spoke to Tony Fernandes five times and he never mentioned it to me. He just said ‘What a load of nonsense’.

“Who do you believe, an insider trying to cause problems or the chairman?”

Goals from Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson gave United victory but Redknapp praised his players for their display.

“I’m very pleased [with the performance]. I thought we worked very hard today,” he said.

“At half-time we were right in the game and I thought it was important we didn’t switch off, but they went ahead in the second half.

“Then we were pushing for an equaliser and left ourselves open. Otherwise, I couldn’t ask for more.

“We’ve done ever so well this year. We’re down there but it’s very tight among the bottom seven teams.”
