Fer has medical as QPR pursue Vargas deal

Leroy Fer has undergone a medical at QPR, who are also looking to tie up the signing of Eduardo Vargas after the Chile forward said he was ready to move to Loftus Road.

Napoli’s Vargas, who featured for his country at this summer’s World Cup and can play up front or as a winger, is one of a host of attacking players Rangers have enquired about in recent weeks.

And on Monday evening his representatives indicated that he was keen to move to London rather than Sunderland, who were also interested.

That prompted Rangers to schedule a medical for Wednesday ahead of an initial loan deal.

He would become the second Chilean to sign for QPR this summer, with Mauricio Isla having arrived from Juventus.

Vargas joined Napoli in 2012 and is yet to score a league goal for them, but he did net three times in 17 La Liga appearances while on loan at Valencia during the second half of last season.

Meanwhile, as Rangers discuss a deal with Napoli for Vargas, it appears their hopes of bringing in Netherlands midfielder Jonathan de Guzman could be scuppered by the Italian club.

They were close to signing the former Swansea loanee from Villarreal but believe De Guzman is on his way to Naples instead.

QPR do, however, expect to complete the signing of Fer from Norwich following several weeks of discussions.

Southampton were also keen on Fer but with manager Harry Redknapp desperate to sign at least one midfielder, Rangers tabled an improved offer.
