QPR not in the running to buy Gayle, says Ramsey

Chris Ramsey has played down reports that QPR are among the clubs chasing Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle.

Gayle, one of a host of players Rangers have been linked with this summer, has snubbed a move to Bristol City after a fee was agreed.

The 24-year-old would potentially be available on loan if he is not sold before the transfer window closes.

But Rangers head coach Ramsey says the club are not currently in a position to buy Gayle and he is not on their list of targets.

“We haven’t made an offer for him. I don’t know if it’s a realistic target as regards the money that was quoted – £6m. I don’t think we’re in that field,” Ramsey said.

“Obviously any club in the Championship would like to have a player of that ability, but we haven’t put that on the list at the moment.”

Gayle has made 24 starts for Palace since joining them from Peterborough two years ago and has scored 18 goals for the south London club.
