QPR boss shrugs off Austin speculation

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has shrugged off speculation about Charlie Austin’s future ahead of the January transfer window.

The striker has scored seven Premier League goals this season and Rangers plan to offer him an improved deal early in the new year.

Reports have claimed that Austin, 25, has already rejected a contract offer, with Liverpool and Tottenham said to be showing an interest.

“There haven’t been any enquiries as far as I know,” said Redknapp.

“I’m sure the club would want to keep Charlie, but I don’t get involved with that.

“That’s down to the chairman and [chief executive] Philip Beard and I’m sure they’ll be sitting down with him.”

Austin has netted five goals in as many games, prompting calls for him to be given a place in the England squad.

Signed from Burnley in the summer of 2013, he scored 19 Championship goals for Rangers last season.
