Bristol City v QPR player ratings

Woeful QPR were well beaten by Bristol City despite their opponents playing most of the match with 10 men. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in their 2-0 defeat at Ashton Gate.

Alex Smithies: 7

Not nearly as busy as when the teams met at Loftus Road before Christmas, but beaten twice. Made a great save to deny Korey Smith in a second-half counter-attack and another fine stop was in vain, with City scoring their second from the rebound.

Alex Baptiste: 6

Will be disappointed not to have got across to cover the near-post header from Famara Diedhiou at a corner just before half-time, which gave City the lead. Made way for Matt Smith at the interval.

Jake Bidwell: 6

Forced to work hard defensively in support of Jack Robinson to curb the menace of City’s loan signing Ryan Kent. Got forward more after the break, but no telling crosses made.

Nedum Onuoha: 6

Made a great block to keep out a Jamie Paterson pile-driver, and the skipper marshalled his defence superbly before the break. But frustration got the better of him late on with a spiteful tackle which earned him a yellow card.

Jack Robinson: 7

A testing afternoon, with winger Ryan Kent always looking to take him on. Guilty of a couple of misplaced passes under no pressure after an excellent first half.

Darnell Furlong: 6

Unable to get around the back of City’s defence, largely because of the excellence of Joe Bryan for the hosts. Withdrawn in favour of Bright Osayi-Samuel as Rangers chased the game.

Massimo Luongo: 7

Grew into the game as Rangers began to make the extra man tell in the second half, but not able to turn the tide ahead of the killer second goal.

Luke Freeman: 6

His former club were aware of the threat his passing and crosses can produce and they made it a priority to hurry him up. He was unable to influence the game.

Josh Scowen: 6

Drew the foul which saw City’s Nathan Baker red-carded after 33 minutes. Some typically robust challenges helped disrupt the home side’s flow, but he could not help create the openings Rangers needed.

Conor Washington: 5

Plenty of chasing from the Rangers striker, but often into unimportant areas. Gained little reward, while clear-cut chances never seemed to come his way.

Aramide Oteh: 5

Flashed a second-half shot across goal and crashed one shot at Luke Steele, but will be disappointed not to have made his mark against City’s reduced numbers. Eberechi Eze replaced him 15 minutes from time.

Matt Smith: 6

Brought on during a half-time re-jig from Ian Holloway against the 10 men. The ex-Bristol City man was given a good reception by home fans. Had at least two decent heading chances which went off target and another straight at the keeper.
