QPR boss would like permanent Carroll deal

QPR manager Harry Redknapp has indicated that he will try to sign Tom Carroll on a permanent basis if Tottenham are willing to let him go at the end of the season.

The on-loan Spurs midfielder has returned to White Hart Lane for treatment on an ankle injury that is expected to keep him out of action for several weeks.

After a difficult start at Rangers, Carroll has impressed in recent matches and is regarded as one of the country’s best prospects.

Redknapp rates Carroll as a top prospect.

But he faces a battle to secure a first-team place at Tottenham and Redknapp says he would be interested in keeping him if the chance arises.

Redknapp said: “It depends what happens at Tottenham and whether they want to keep him.

“If they decide he’s not in their plans then he’s the kind of player you’d want to build a team around. But it would be Tottenham’s decision.”

Carroll was hurt while playing for England’s Under-21s this week and his untimely absence comes just as he was beginning to make an impact in the Championship.

But Redknapp believes the 20-year-old will play a key role for the R’s as they look to get back to the top flight.

“Hopefully he’s not going to be out for too long, but he’ll be out for a few weeks,” Redknapp added.

“He picked up a nasty injury and it’s a shame because he has been playing well for us.”
