Spurs’ Carroll edges closer to Rangers return

Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham youngster Tom Carroll will be back in action for QPR soon after the international break.

Carroll’s season-long loan at Rangers was interrupted by an ankle injury he suffered while playing for England Under-21s four weeks ago.

He has since been having treatment at Spurs, but Redknapp is hopeful the 21-year-old will return to west London within the next few weeks – certainly well before the all-important Christmas period.

The R’s boss said: “Tom’s still a few weeks away from fitness. He’s still back at Tottenham having treatment.

“He’ll hopefully be back before Christmas. Hopefully when we come back after the break he’ll be near.”

Carroll’s injury occurred just as he was finding his feet after a difficult start to his time at Loftus Road.

And Rangers were dealt an even bigger blow when popular midfielder Alejandro Faurlin was ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering cruciate damage for the second time in less than two years.

Redknapp is therefore considering bringing in a player on loan as cover and has also told Yossi Benayoun’s representatives that the former Chelsea man can train with Rangers and try to earn a deal.

Benayoun has been without a club since his Chelsea contract expired in the summer and has been seeking a return to London and a contact until 2015.

A number of Spanish clubs have expressed an interest in signing the 33-year-old Israeli.
