QPR v Peterborough player ratings

[/media-credit] Pawel Wszolek scored on his QPR return

QPR saw off Peterborough to secure a place in the second round of the Carabao Cup and a first win under manager Steve McClaren. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-0 victory at Loftus Road.

Joe Lumley: 7

Given a chance to show what McClaren what he can do, the young keeper did well. He dealt with a series of high balls into his area and used his legs to produce an important second-half save. He was also noticeably more comfortable with the ball at his feet than Matt Ingram. Distribution is certainly an area Lumley is superior in.

Osman Kakay: 7

Lively on the right again. The full-back is enjoying the chance to shine given to him by the unfortunate injury to Darnell Furlong.

Toni Leistner: 6

Generally a calming presence but did seem ruffled during a second-half spell in which Rangers were under pressure and sometimes disorganised at the back.

Alex Baptiste: 6

Decent enough. Giving him some game time was sensible in light of Rangers’ limited options at the back at present.

Jake Bidwell: 6

Untroubled defensively for much of the game and got forward at times, including when he tried his luck with a long-range effort with the outside of the left boot.

Josh Scowen: 6

Did the basics well in his role just in front of the back four. Went close with a second-half free-kick.

Jordan Cousins: 6

Another fringe player who needed a run-out in order to keep his fitness levels up. Did OK.

Pavel Wszolek: 7

Scored with a cool finish and undoubtedly staked claim for a place in the team with a committed, energetic display. Offers experience and a level of reliability some of Rangers’ younger options out wide don’t.

Luke Freeman: 7

Scored the opening goal and was involved in much of Rangers’ best work despite a fairly muted display by his standards.

Bright Osayi-Samuel: 6

Is not the finished article but has pace and can be exciting to watch. Almost found Conor Washington with a teasing left-wing cross in the second half.

Conor Washington: 7

Not much of a goal threat himself but was involved in the build up to both Rangers goals and in general produced plenty of quality and movement up front against his former club. His cross led to Freeman’s opener and he set up Wszolek with a nice pass.

Ebere Eze: 6

Brought on midway through a second half in which Rangers were often on the back foot, so he did not make much of an impact. Neither did fellow substitutes Ryan Manning and Matt Smith, who had even less time on the pitch.
