Kranjcar nursing injury ahead of Saints clash

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch will be unavailable for Saturday’s game against Southampton, while Niko Kranjcar is also a doubt.

West London Sport revealed on Wednesday that Barton and Mutch were set to miss the trip to St Mary’s but Sandro, who missed last weekend’s draw with Stoke, had been cleared to return to training.

And while Redknapp is optimistic Sandro will play against the Saints, he must also hope Kranjcar is able to shake off a knock the Croatian picked up in the Stoke game.

Meanwhile, Adel Taarabt is still struggling with an ankle injury he recently suffered in training.

Mutch has been struggling with a hamstring problem

Redknapp said: “We’re struggling – Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch aren’t available for sure and with Sandro we have to wait and see.

“Niko Kranjcar got a knock as well and we’ll have to see if he’s available and Adel’s ankle is still sore and he’s doubtful.”

Barton and Mutch came through fitness tests to play against Stoke but limped off during the game, both with hamstring injuries.

Rangers are not sure how long the duo will be sidelined for but are relieved that Sandro, who has had previous knee problems, is not facing a long spell out.

“When he first did it you suddenly fear the worst, but it looks like it’s okay,” said Redknapp.

  • A knock "he picked up in the Stoke game". NO. He was hacked down by several players in an orchestrated attempt to injure him.
