Birmingham v QPR player ratings

QPR’s long wait for an away win is finally over. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 victory at Birmingham.

Alex Smithies: 5

For once Smithies’ blushes were saved by his team-mates rather than the other way around. So often the man to win Rangers points or prevent a drubbing, he was hardly called into action before his failure to hold a shot led to a Birmingham equaliser. But his side hit back to take all three points.

Alex Baptiste: 7

Made a welcome return after suspension and showed his experience with a composed display at the back.

Nedum Onuoha: 7

Speaking of welcome returns, Onuoha has made a phenomenal recovery from a torn hamstring. His fitness looked spot-on during a battling display on his second game back.

Jack Robinson: 9

What a day for the defender and what a turnaround in his fortunes this season. Again excellent at the back, he scored twice – the first goals of his senior career – with his late winner securing a much needed three points.

Pawel Wszolek: 7

Tireless on the flank. The Polish wide-man doesn’t always get it right going forward but his persistence and non-stop tracking back are admirable.

Josh Scowen: 7

Solid in midfield. Went close with a deflected shot in the first half.

Massimo Luongo: 6

Seemed jaded at times, but stuck to his task and won plenty of challenges.

Luke Freeman: 7

Such a key player for Rangers. Delivered the ball for the first goal and his skill and movement were always a problem for Birmingham.

Jake Bidwell: 7

Bidwell’s deliveries from the flank also worried the home side and one of them led to the winner. He was solid defensively too.

Matt Smith: 5

Missed an early chance when he blasted over and he generally failed to make an impact – even in the air, where Idrissa Sylla had more success than Smith after replacing him for the final 15 minutes.

Conor Washington: 5

Poor. Looked devoid of confidence and was barely involved before missing his only chance when he fired wide after finding himself in on goal.

Idrissa Sylla: 6

Did well after coming on and went close to scoring with a header shortly before Robinson’s winner.
