QPR boss hails Roberts after impressive substitute appearances

QPR head coach Mick Beale says he is excited by what Tyler Roberts can bring to his side when he reaches full fitness after his starring role in Saturday’s dramatic draw at Sunderland.

Roberts was excellent after he came on at half-time following a poor opening 45 minutes at the Stadium of Light that saw Rangers trail 2-0 before fighting back with goals in the final five minutes from Ilias Chair and goalkeeper Seny Dieng.

Roberts was impressive in his 20-minute cameo at Charlton last week, scoring a wonderful goal, and Beale said he is wary of overloading the burden on the on-loan Leeds man.

“I am bringing him on when I am allowed to really,” Beale said.

“But you can see the quality he’s got and if that is a half-fit Tyler Roberts then we are very fortunate to have him.”

Rangers have agreed a fee with Leeds to make the move to Loftus Road permanent at the end of the season and the Beale believes he is a player who can make a big impact on the team this season.

“I can only imagine what he’s going to be like when he is playing with Chris (Willock), Taylor Richards, Luke Amos, Jake Clarke-Salter, Kenneth Paal, when everyone is fit,” he said.

“He has been unfortunate with his injury but he is only 23 and that makes him younger than Ilias (Chair) and Chris and we are looking forward to what he can do for us, especially when everyone is available.”
