Fernandes rules out director of football role for Ferdinand at QPR

Tony Fernandes has told Sky Sports News there is no prospect of QPR legend Les Ferdinand returning to Loftus Road as director of football.

Rangers have been discussing a possible role for the former England striker for some time and there has been speculation that he could be given senior position.

But chairman Fernandes said: “We’re not really into creating a director of football role.

“Les is someone I’m close to and we’re seeing how we can involve him. I’d love him to come back. We’ll have to wait and see.

“He is one of many names we’ve been discussing to see how to help the shareholders, who are not here every day.”

Fernandes added that he expects manager Harry Redknapp to sign a new contract in the coming days.
