Ferdinand injury not serious – Warnock

QPR manager Neil Warnock expects Anton Ferdinand to make a swift return from the injury that forced the defender to limp off during the 1-0 defeat against Liverpool.

Ferdinand hurt his hamstring shortly after Luis Suarez headed home what turned out to be the winner at Anfield.

Rangers initially feared the injury was a serious one, but Warnock revealed: “It’s not as bad as we first thought. He’ll probably be out for a couple of weeks, but he’ll be okay.”

Warnock decided to leave out top scorer Heidar Helguson rather than risk the veteran forward after he complained of a slight thigh problem.

Rangers’ limited attacking options told as they failed to trouble Liverpool’s defence and brought on DJ Campbell as a substitute despite the striker having not kicked a ball since recently returning to training after a foot injury.

The R’s would have been beaten by a bigger margin but for an outstanding display from stand-in keeper Radek Cerny, who was playing because of injuries to Paddy Kenny and Brian Murphy.

But Warnock praised his players, saying: “I’m proud of them. A lot of teams will come to Anfield and get a beating.

“Kenny Dalglish and the Liverpool bench were biting their nails in the last 10 minutes and how many teams make them do that at Anfield?

“And I’m delighted for Radek – 37 and thought he’d never play a Premier League game again. Well, he’s played three now and been great for us.”
