Faurlin returns as QPR win in Germany

Alejandro Faurlin returned to action as QPR opened their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win against Rot Weiß Erfurt.

Charlie Austin scored the winner in Germany where the popular Faurlin, who last November suffered cruciate damage for the second time in as many years, played the second half.

Esteban Granero, back after a season on loan at Real Sociedad, also featured for Rangers, as did the out-of-contract Gary O’Neil.

Austin netted on 22 minutes, heading home following Joey Barton’s quickly-taken free-kick.

The home side had plenty of chances in the first half and almost equalised when Christian Falk headed against the bar.

Erfurt continued to press after the break and Clint Hill had to produce a last-ditch challenge to deny Wegel Andreas.

Rio Ferdinand did not play but is expected to be involved in Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig along with fellow new signing Steven Caulker, whose move to Rangers was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.
