Dyer keen to keep right-back role

QPR’s Kieron Dyer says he would welcome a stint at right-back with open arms – he is just grateful to finally be playing again.

The 33-year-old, whose career has been ravaged by injury, played at full-back after Jose Bosingwa limped off in the third minute against Tottenham on Sunday.

Bosingwa has a hamstring problem.

Boswinga could be sidelined for several weeks, potentially handing Dyer a run in the side.

“I started my career at right-back, played a season-and-a-half there at Ipswich and made my England debut at right-back too. I’ve got quite a bit of experience there,” said Dyer.

“There’s a few injuries to the back four now so I might get a run at right-back. When the manager calls I’ll be waiting.

“The most important thing for me now is to stay fit and get a run of games. We’ve got a big squad and there’s a lot of competition for places.

“I’ve been getting the odd minutes here and there but now I’ve got a full game under my belt.”

Dyer added: “I always used to go onto the pitch with the doubts in my mind, but the way I train now is like a match.

“If I can get through the intensity of training now, matches should be a breeze.”
