Dismal QPR are trounced by Southampton
Southampton 5Azaz (9′)
Matsuki (45’+2, 50′)
Scienza (59′)
Bree (70′)
QPR 0
QPR’s up-and-down form – and their injury problems – continued with an abysmal display in a trouncing at Southampton.
Kuryu Matsuki scored twice and there were also goals for Finn Azaz, Léo Scienza and James Bree in a totally one-sided game on the south coast.
Azaz gave the Saints an early lead when he collected a pass from former QPR man Ryan Manning, turned and fired into the far corner of the net from near the edge of the penalty area.
Worse followed for Rangers when standout midfielder Nicolas Madsen went off just after the half-hour mark with what looked like a hamstring injury.
They had a let-off shortly before the interval when Taylor Harwood-Bellis’ header from Manning’s free-kick hit the post.
But Southampton did get a second goal in first-half stoppage time – and it was a shocking goal for QPR to concede.
Scienza swung in a corner and keeper Joe Walsh inexplicably allowed the totally unmarked – and significantly shorter – Matsuki to outjump him and head in from a couple of yards out.
Matsuki scored again early in the second half and it was another bad moment for Walsh, who weakly parried Scienza’s shot towards the Japanese, who finished emphatically.
Scienza slotted in the fourth after being set up by Azaz, and Bree fired in the fifth.
