Decisions to be made over QPR backroom team

New QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is set to make crucial decisions on his backroom staff in the coming days.

Hasselbaink has brought in David Oldfield, who was his right-hand man at Burton, as his assistant and wants other staff members from the League One club to join him at Loftus Road.

That could affect long-serving Rangers man Steve Gallen, who is currently first-team coach.

Meanwhile, director of football Les Ferdinand wants Chris Ramsey to take an overseeing role essentially coaching the coaches at the club. Simon Ireland currently has the position of head of coaching.

Ferdinand explained: “I’d like to bring Chris back to the club in some capacity, not just as head of youth – I want him to coach our coaches.

“Coaching education is as important as coaching the kids. If they’re not coaching the right things you’re never going to develop them. I know Chris is great at coaching.”

Gallen, brother of former QPR forward Kevin, has held various jobs at the club, including Under-18s and Under-21 manager, and was promoted to a role with the first team in the summer.

Asked about Gallen’s future, Ferdinand said: “That’s down to Jimmy. He has to decide what’s right for his first team. We’ll see where we go from there.”

But Ferdinand added: “We need a constant at the football club.

“I don’t want a new manager bringing in four or five people every time and then four or five people leave when the manager does. I need a few constants at the football club.

“I know Jimmy wants to improve on his coaching staff, but that will come in time.”
