Pierce Charles’ stoppage-time penalty save secured a point for QPR at the London Stadium.

The young keeper produced two all-important stops, keeping out Jarrod Bowen’s spot-kick and then superbly pushing Arne Engels’ follow-up onto the woodwork.

Nicolas Madsen gave Rangers the lead with a penalty in the first half and Bowen equalised midway through the second.

Rangers’ penalty was hugely controversial, with Tomas Soucek getting the ball – and doing so outside the box – only to be adjudged to have fouled Paul Smyth.

Madsen calmly netted from the spot, and Rangers kept the frustrated Hammers at bay until Bowen levelled.

Bowen had been kept quiet by Boy Kemper, who was outstanding on his return from injury.

But QPR conceded just after the Dutchman was replaced by Tariq Lamptey, who allowed Bowen to cut in from the right flank onto his left foot – something Kemper had consistently not allowed him to do.

Bowen’s shot was blocked by Jimmy Dunne but the England international reacted quickly to thump in the loose ball.

Rangers then came under pressure, and a daft tug of Pablo’s shirt by Amadou Mbengue gave the hosts the chance to take all the points, but Charles brilliantly denied them.
