QPR v Cardiff player ratings
Rumarn Burrell scored both QPR goals as they won at Loftus Road to continue their impressive start to the season. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 victory against Cardiff.
Pierce Charles: 7
Cardiff gave perhaps an early indication of what Rangers will face as teams, aware of Charles’ excellent distribution, work hard to close him down. And it’s good news – they still struggled to contain the young keeper, who again impressed with the ball at his feet and produced a couple of smart saves.
Amadou Mbengue: 7
Worked tirelessly before picking up a knock prior to going off in the second half.
Jimmy Dunne: 8
Excellent at the back. Calm and assured throughout, and as always an important presence in the air. Missed an early chance, though, when he headed wide from Harvey Vale’s corner.
Ronnie Edwards: 9
Absolutely outstanding. Back in his natural position of central defence, he came to the rescue with an early block, was solid throughout and created openings at the other end – not least when he set up the second QPR goal by winning the ball, riding a challenge and releasing Burrell. And when he went back into midfield later in the game, he was again excellent there too.
Tariq Lamptey: 9
Wow. A first start for QPR, following a long spell of injury woe, and his performance – as a makeshift left-back – could not have been more emphatic. He was quick, alert to danger and showed pure Premier League quality going forward. Superb.
Harvey Vale: 7
Missed a decent chance and drifted in and out of the game, but posed a threat and played his part in the win. Worked hard off the ball too.
Glen Kamara: 8
Like Lamptey, Kamara followed up a couple of impressive cameos with a fine showing on his full debut. Gritty, but with class too – as he showed when laying on a chance for Koki Saito with a tidy pass.
Nicolas Madsen: 7
Getting his sharpness back after a pre-season injury, Madsen delivered the corner which led to the first goal and used the ball well before going off in the second half.
Koki Saito: 6
Showed typical enthusiasm and was involved in some nice link-up play, but never looked as dynamic or threatening as Rangers’ other attacking players – and missed a great chance to make it 3-0 when he sliced high and wide of the target.
Alfie Lloyd: 7
Justified his inclusion with a lively display up front. Had a couple of opportunities to score, particularly when he blasted over in the first half, but he rolled away from his marker superbly to get that shot away, and he was always a problem for Cardiff’s defence.
Rumarn Burrell: 8
Scored two goals, the second of which was a lovely finish, and his overall performance was terrific. Back to his pacy, bustling, goalscoring best.
Jonathan Varane: 6
Not bad after coming on, but could have been quicker to close down goalscorer Perry Ng.
Dennis Cirkin: 6
Another promising showing after his introduction.
Kealey Adamson: 6
Did a steady job again – his emergence has been an early-season bonus.
Jake Clarke-Salter: 6
Also did pretty well during his time on the pitch. So too did Ilias Chair, who was introduced late on and helped to shore things up.
