Brentford defeat worse than Newcastle thrashing – Hasselbaink

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says QPR’s home defeat against Brentford felt worse than the 6-0 hammering by Newcastle.

Weeks after the Magpies ran riot at Loftus Road, Brentford won there for the first time in 52 years.

And Rangers manager Hasselbaink said: “It hurts more than Newcastle.

“Local rival, yes, and the way that we have lost – I didn’t expect that.

“I especially didn’t expect it after Bristol City, which was a really good performance.

“I expected to at least have a performance. It’s the performance that lets me down, not the result.”

Hasselbaink faced criticism from fans even before Friday’s derby defeat.

And there was inevitably an angry response from the home crowd following another abject showing by his team.

Hasselbaink said: “They want us to win more games and we feel that we need to win more, so I do understand their frustration.

“But frustration and pressure is not going to help the players. What we need to look at is why we win more games away from home than we do at home.”
