Austin could return for QPR at Brentford

QPR striker Charlie Austin could return for Friday’s derby at Brentford.

Austin, who has scored seven goals this season, has missed four matches since picking up a hamstring injury during Rangers’ 4-0 defeat at Fulham a month ago.

But head coach Chris Ramsey believes Austin could be available for the game at Griffin Park and will certainly be in the squad for the away match against Derby a week on Tuesday.

“Charlie was trying to get himself back in the squad this week, but we have to protect him,” said Ramsey.

“Sometimes, for a player’s own good, having looked at an injury you decide that they’re not quite ready. Rushing them back is a big mistake.

“I would say we’ll hopefully be looking for him to play in the next game or be part of the squad. If not, then definitely the game after that.”

Rangers have managed to scored eight goals in Austin’s absence. Three of them have come from his replacement, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, who scored the all-important opener in their 3-0 win against MK Dons.
