Striker Campbell is keen to stay at QPR

DJ Campbell says he wants to stay at QPR but accepts he may have to go elsewhere in order to play first-team football.

The Hammersmith-born forward, who supported Rangers as a youngster, has made only 11 league appearances since signing for the club from Blackpool in the summer of 2011.

And he faces an uncertain future as manager Harry Redknapp assesses his squad ahead of next season.

Campbell, 31, said: “I want to stay. This is my team.

“I’d absolutely love to stay and help them achieve things that I’ve dreamed of achieving on a personal level and what we should be achieving as a team.

“But this is football and it’s not that easy – sometimes you have to assess all your options.”

Campbell scored 10 goals in 17 Championship appearances while on loan at Ipswich last season and ended the campaign on loan at Blackburn.

He was surplus to requirements at Rangers, who suffered relegation despite their huge spending.

And Campbell admitted: “I’m not sure what went wrong this year. We’ve got some great players. It’s a massive shame.

“It’s a shame because we’ve spent a lot of money to buy these players and for whatever reasons it hasn’t worked out and being a QPR fan it’s sad to see us go down.

“The chairman invested heavily and it just hasn’t worked for us.

“I don’t know if it was a case of players not pulling their weight. That’s not really my position to say.

“I was on loan a lot of the time but I know this will have hurt some of the lads there and all I can wish and hope for is that we can bounce back up next year.”
