Whiley makes French Open doubles final
Ickenham’s Jordanne Whiley will go for her sixth consecutive Grand Slam wheelchair doubles title after winning her semi-final at the French Open on Thursday.
Whiley and partner Yui Kamiji defeated Charlotte Famin of France and Sharon Walraven of the Netherlands in straight sets, 6-3 6-1.
The Anglo-Japanese pair, the defending champions at Roland Garros, traded breaks with their opponents early in the opening set but then clicked into gear by winning four games in a row.
They then broke in the opening game of the second set and never looked back, completing a comfortable victory.
In the final, Whiley and Kamiji will face second seeds Jiske Griffioen and Aniek Van Koot, who coincidentally defeated them in their respective women’s singles matches.
