Two tons earn Gould progress in Poland

Pinner’s Martin Gould battled through three matches in a day, hitting two centuries, to book his place in the last 16 of the Gdynia Open in Poland.

The world number 24 thrashed amateur Mitchell Travis 4-0, with a break of 90 in the third frame.

He then hit 93 to wrap up a 4-2 win over Northern Ireland’s Gerard Greene, setting up a match with former World and UK Championship quarter-finalist Fergal O’Brien.

Gould, ranked 11 on the European Order of Merit and seeded ninth for this PTC event, was 2-1 down going into the fourth but rattled off a superb 111 break to level.

O’Brien, the world number 28, was never allowed to recover as Gould – who has reached three PTC event finals and also made the inaugural Grand Final – made further breaks of 61 and 106 to clinch victory.

He will next face world number 46 Jimmy Robertson in the fourth round on Sunday morning.
