Ruislip Eagles win to reach cup final

Ruislip Eagles reached the final of the EHA Cup with a 29-26 victory against London GD II.

The Eagles trailed after a strong start by the home side and were dealt another blow when they lost influential playmaker Akos Weress through injury.

Three down at half-time, they then had Fredrik Charpentier red-carded and looked to be heading for defeat.

But they battled back to level at 21-21 and then raced into a three-goal lead in the final 10 minutes to reach their third final in four years.

Michael Vitello played a major part in their success, scoring eight times, while there were important second-half goals from Denis Werner, Joszef Csontos and David Sedlacek.

Another vital member of the team, Fabien Colette, said: “Defeat was never an option, but they made us work hard until the end of the game.

“Credit to LGD II for their performance, but what a delight to reach the cup final once more with the Eagles!”

The EHA Cup finals will be on Saturday, 8 June in Crystal Palace.

Before then, the Eagles are back on court this Saturday in Sporthouse, Barking, at 12:30, for a crucial Super 8 league game against Salford HC, when they will be playing for second place in the league.
