Chiswick Futsal Club gearing up for first top-flight season

A West London futsal team has become a top-flight club in only their first year of existence.

Chiswick Futsal Club, managed by Peter Prickett, were informed in April that they would be playing in the National Futsal League.

This comes after success in the London Futsal League, with the team winning many of its games.

Chiswick narrowly lost out in the semi-final but showed tremendous spirit throughout the whole season and a positive attitude, on and off the court, has seen high-profile players join from other clubs in the London area.

Prickett said: “This group of players have managed to show such potential in such a short period of time, and now we want to take what we’ve developed this season to the top league in England – bring on September.”

Futsal – a fast-paced small-sided football game widely played across the world and officially recognised by both Uefa and Fifa – places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in high pressure situations.

As a result, it is an excellent breeding ground for skills that can be translated into the 11-a-side game.

And the club wants to develop such talent a little closer to its Chiswick home.

Chairman Andrew Lee, who co-founded the club with Juan Rodriguez Fernandez, said: “One of my goals when setting up this club was to give something back to the local west London community.

“As a lover of all things futsal, what better way to start a club in Chiswick and develop local talent in the area I have come to love – this gives me something to feel proud about.

“Over time we will make Chiswick even more proud.”

Chiswick Futsal Club will begin its inaugural season in the FA National Futsal League on 11 September, and will play home matches at the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre.

The fixture list is due to be released in mid July.
