Ouseph wins record fifth successive title

Hounslow’s Rajiv Ouseph won the men’s singles title at the English National Badminton Championships for a record fifth consecutive year.

The Olympic hopeful beat number two seed Carl Baxter 21-18 21-14 in the final in Bolton.

It completed a brilliant weekend for Ouseph, who enjoyed a 21-16 21-8 first-round win against Ben Dolman before trouncing Alex Marritt 21-9 21-8.

He was just as superior in his quarter-final against Neil White, which he won 21-8 21-8.

Ouseph was made to work harder by Ben Beckman before clinching a 21-17 21-18 victory to set up the clash with Baxter, who was unable to stop the 25-year-old getting his hands on the trophy again.
