Ouseph crashes out of World Champs

Rajiv Ouseph’s World Championship campaign ended in the second round with defeat to India’s K. Srikanth in Copenhagen.

Hounslow’s world number 22, who knocked out 16th seed Chong Wei Feng in Tuesday’s first round, led briefly late in the opening game, 17-16.

However, Srikanth – who is only a place below Ouseph in the world rankings – stormed back to take it 18-21.

Ouseph suffered a bit of a hangover early in the second game, dropping the first three points but recovered his position to keep in touch with the 21-year-old.

However, Srikanth, a quarter-finalist in the men’s singles at the Commonwealth Games last month, took six points in a row to establish a 12-5 lead – and Ouseph was on the ropes.

The west Londoner could never string enough winners together to threaten Srikanth, who stretched his commanding lead to 16-7.

Srikanth closed out the match at the second opportunity as he moved into the third round with a 21-18, 21-13 win.
