Ouseph crashes out of Indonesian Open

Rajiv Ouseph was beaten by home player Ihsan Maulana Mustofa in the quarter-finals of the Indonesian Open on Friday.

Feltham’s world number 15 took the first game but ended up losing the next two as Mustofa hit back to win 17-21 21-12 21-12.

It was Ouseph’s third match in a row that had gone the distance in Jakarta, after wins over Zi Liang Derek Wong and Wei Nan, and he was not able to make the most of his good start against Mustofa, ranked 14 places below him.

The west Londoner was never behind in the opening game and held Mustofa at arm’s length after pulling away at 7-7.

He squandered a 10-6 lead in the second game as Mustofa won 15 of the next 17 points to take the match into a decider.

Ouseph also led 6-1 in that but Mustofa stormed back and went from 10-9 to 18-9 ahead, before closing out the victory.
