Wealdstone lose on penalties in FA Trophy final

Wealdstone suffered heartbreak at Wembley, losing on penalties to Southend United in the FA Trophy final.
After a tense 90 minutes ended in a 0-0 stalemate, the Essex side won the shootout 4-2 after Shrimpers keeper Collin Andeng-Ndi saved penalties from Jack Bridge and Olufela Olomola.
The Stones, managed by QPR legend Gary Waddock and playing at Wembley for the first time since winning the trophy in 1985, recovered after a shaky start and were on top for much of the first half.
Wealdstone keeper Dante Baptiste – who saved from ex-QPR youngster Charley Kendall in the shootout – pushed an effort from Harry Cardwell onto the post in the first half. At the other end, Anthony Georgiou’s strike was saved by Andeng-Ndi.
But it was a game of few clear-cut chances, despite both teams’ work ethic, and Waddock’s side missed out in cruel fashion.
