Popular defender leaves Wealdstone

Defender Alan Massey has left Wealdstone to sign for Blue Square Premier side Braintree Town.

The centre-back, who joined the club from Wycombe in 2007, established himself as a hugely popular figure among Stones fans.

“Alan has been a superb servant of this club since arriving four seasons ago,” said Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett.

“He is a great character and very popular with players and fans alike, and we all wish him the very best at Braintree.

“He leaves on excellent terms and with our full blessing as he fully deserves the opportunity to play at a higher level of football.

“We are proud of our consistent record of furthering the careers of many young players who have moved on to Conference and League football.”
