McCann leaves Hendon to become Beavers boss

Gary McCann has taken over as Hampton & Richmond Borough manager.

McCann, 45, has left Hendon, where he was in charge for more than a decade, to replace Alan Dowson, who recently left Hampton for Woking.

Having also served Hendon as a player – he first joined them in 1997 – McCann enjoyed success there as manager and recently led them to the Isthmian League promotion final, where they beaten on penalties by Dulwich Hamlet.

Hampton chairman Graham Wood told the club website: “Our initial thoughts on likely candidates and subsequent research put Gary at the top of our list.

“The vacancy was advertised but we knew Gary was under contract to Hendon, so we requested permission to speak to him. Permission was granted and we are grateful for Hendon’s co-operation throughout the process.

“Following today’s interview, we are now fully satisfied he is the right man for the job and are pleased to announce that terms have been agreed and Gary is Hampton’s new manager.”
