Stefan Brown’s first-half goal gave Wealdstone a 1-0 victory over Chippenham, leaving them just one point from the play-off places.

Brown’s low left-footed drive cannoned off the post into the net. It clinched the Stones’ first home win since January.

Jake Sheppard almost doubled the advantage four minutes later when his audacious effort whacked the post.

Chippenham almost equalised five minutes before the break when Nick McCootie attempted a bicycle-kick in the box which was just off-target.

There was another scare for the Stones when captain Jerome Okimo’s clearance almost went past Jonathan North and into his own net before flying away for a corner.

Stones keeper North made a fantastic save from point-blank range to deny Nathaniel Jarvis in the second half.

And in stoppage time, Kieran Parselle almost equalised with a header.
