Rogers hits century as Middlesex draw

Middlesex 353-7 dec drew with Nottinghamshire 430-7 dec
(Middlesex 8 pts, Nottinghamshire 9 pts)

Chris Rogers completed his century as Middlesex’s final Lord’s match of the season concluded in an inevitable draw.

After day three had been washed out completely, further rain on Saturday meant play didn’t start until 1.10pm.

Fittingly, skipper Rogers led the way initially with 108 while Joe Denly (63) and John Simpson (53 not out) chipped in with attacking half centuries.

Once Simpson made it past 50, Middlesex declared and shook hands on the draw that mathematically eliminates them from the title race.

When the rain clouds had dispersed, Rogers and opening partner Sam Robson resumed on Thursday’s overnight score of 96-o.

Rogers wasted little time in reaching his third century of the County Championship season and the pair took their partnership beyond 150, before both fell in successive Andre Adams overs.

Denly shared in decent partnerships with both Dawid Malan and Neil Dexter but was bowled not long after reaching his 50, leaving Middlesex on 245-4.

Simpson was well supported by Gareth Berg to take their side past the token follow-on target and when the wicket-keeper made his 50, Middlesex called it a day having scored 257 from the 63 overs bowled.
