Middlesex’s Yorkshire Bank 40 match at Bristol was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain.
Twice the two sides thought they might be able to take to the field only for the weather to put paid to those hopes.
First, a 29-over match was planned, with a 3.30pm start, but, although the teams were named, the heavens opened again before the captains had tossed up.
The covers were on and off all day and the umpires made one last effort to get a game on, reduced to 10-overs a side.
This time, the toss did take place and the players emerged on to the field – but were sent back to the pavilion again before action could begin.
It gives Middlesex their first point in the competition, having lost the opening match against Glamorgan.
