Middlesex re-sign New Zealand star McClenaghan

Middlesex have re-signed New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan for part of the 2016 season.

The left-armer played four matches for the club in last season’s T20 Blast, picking up eight wickets.

This year, he will join up with the squad once his involvement in the Indian Premier League ends, making him available for at least 12 of Middlesex’s T20 Blast group-stage matches.

McClenaghan will also be available for County Championship or Royal London One-Day Cup cricket during that period, if required.

The 29-year-old, who has more than 100 T20 and one-day international wickets for New Zealand, will be joined at Lord’s by outgoing Black Caps captain Brendon McCullum.

Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “Mitchell gets modern limited-over cricket, its mood, its uncertainty, its ups and downs and the fact a bowler needs to be deliberately unpredictable.

“He has the skills and mindset to be constantly competitive in these forms of the game.”
