Middlesex ease to 10-wicket win at Notts

Middlesex 353 & 110-0 beat Nottinghamshire 278 & 182 by 10 wickets
(Middlesex 22 pts, Nottinghamshire 5 pts)

Middlesex ruthlessly crushed Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge to get their County Championship campaign off to a perfect start.

Most of the damage had been done over the first three days but Middlesex finished the job in clinical fashion on the final morning.

Toby Roland-Jones removed Andre Adams with the first ball of the day to wrap up Nottinghamshire’s innings, setting a victory target of 108.

Openers Chris Rogers (pictured) and Sam Robson, who shared a century opening partnership in the first innings, then repeated the feat to comfortably see Middlesex over the line just before lunch.

Notts began the day on 182-9, just 107 ahead, and were banking on a dogged batting display – and then a lot of rain – to save them from defeat.

But any fears the last pair could prove an obstacle for Middlesex were instantly dispelled when Adams, on 50, was caught by Ollie Rayner at second slip off the morning’s first delivery.

Rogers and Robson both survived strong caught behind appeals early on but they quickly set about the Notts bowling.

As in the first innings, the two openers passed 50 and Robson hit the winning runs to the fence in the 25th over.
